Last friday I went to go test drive a challenger
The boring one, that is. Given that FCA is almost certain to release an awd v6 (That I am hoping is relatively affordable) I figured, what the hell, I will go drive a RWD v6 to know if I will even want the car in ~2 years when I get a real job.
Shut up, it makes sense to me.
Anywho, when I went to the closest dealer to me, they told me that they didn’t have any. Not the worst thing in the world, I mean this is the slow season for these kind of cars. What he told me next was what is bugging the crap out of me.
They had x2 hellcats, and x4 rts with at least one srt 392.
That is a similar story to 2 other dealers nearby.
...
So your dealership is confident enough in sales of the most expensive and loaded versions, with out any of the traditional cheap ones that usually sell volume?
Its like some weird alternate reality where people have taste.
I want to dd that junk. I don’t really want a rocket right now. I’m fine with a v6, that means I can actually afford one.

I rented a V6 Challenger once. It was good.

Taste and Dodge dealership don’t go together.

Same here at work. Many Hellcats, 392s, but no V6ers. No R/Ts until recently either.

It doesn’t surprise me that much. People who want a large RWD two-door muscle car with no real pretensions of handling prowess aren’t looking for practicality or fuel mileage. They want the sound and acceleration of a V8.

Wasn’t there a study showing the majority of buyers get loaded vehicles?
Also had a rental V6. Was also good.

Good point.

That kind of decision makes sense, but realistically most people buy the base for these kinds of cars dating all the way back to the 60's. This common sense would be a new development.

I like my RT...2013 with 5.7 and Tremac manual. it doesnt handle as well or is as quick as the camaro ss or mustang gt....but it rides great and is loud

I’ll trade my moderator privileges for a Hellcat

True enough. There were a shit ton more six cylinder Chevelles sold than SS454s. I wonder if the buying demographic for Challengers skew things. I would guess that there are a lot of people my age or older who lusted after Hemi Challengers as kids and are now buying the closest thing to it while the younger demo has little interest.

Checked the dealer near me. They have a few of them but they’re marked down so much. To the point that it costs the same as a base Civic.
I’d stay away from it, if it’s selling that badly, something’s wrong it it.

options maybe. But muscle cars usually sell v6's in volume.

If the hellcat came out in 1969 we would be reading how only 25 people checked the $400 option for the engine lol. I think you are right and that generation realized their mistakes haha.

It’s this time of year. I am not going to make excuses for FCA’s piss poor build quality, but dealers have a bitch of a time getting rid of this years models once winter hits.

I think the V-8's are desirable and cheap enough that it probably makes up most of what they sell.

True - and there were far more 283/307/350 Chevelles than sixes or big block cars.

V6 Challengers are fairly common here in CA, relative to the higher trims.

I’m going to make an update post. Liked it, v6 seems like plenty, any more would be damn scary in a car that heavy.
